Mourning Frankie

A comic on vampires, Filipino Americans and succumbing to villainy, because it's the monsters who have more fun.

Frankie, a nonbinary Filipino American, gets willingly embraced into the night after making several thirsty tweets for various fictional vampires. The story follows one of Frankie’s first tasks as a new-turn: an act of revenge against a group of vampire hunters. However they won’t enact this alone. They are instead partnered with the notorious Marlon Guinto; a vampire of a different strain. Will these two find their personal partnership helpful, or too much of a distraction to complete the task at hand?

Mourning Frankie is a contemporary vampire comic set in Miami Florida. It is focused on Filipino American and Queer identity, along with issues like class conflict and cultural appropriation all while keeping horror, humor, and romance the lens of which to digest this.

Inspiration is drawn from various pieces of vampire media and literature including but not limited to What We Do in The Shadows, Vampire: The Masquerade, and notorious classics like Twilight.

Mourning Frankie, which was kickstarted for 500 offset printed copies, can be purchased via my website and is in the process of being adapted for Line Webtoon. The continuation of the story in issue #2 is currently in the works.
